Effects of energy source in milk replacer on glucose metabolism of neonatal dairy calves

چکیده

Milk replacers (MR) formulated to contain more lactose than whole milk could potentially reduce insulin sensitivity in dairy calves. This study evaluated how partially replacing MR with fat on a weight/weight basis affects glucose–insulin kinetics neonatal calves fed high quantities of MR. Thirty-four Holstein bull were blocked by dam parity (1.6 ± 0.3) and randomly assigned 1 2 treatments (n = 17): high-lactose (HL; 46.1% lactose, 18.0% crude fat, 23.9% protein dry matter basis) or (HF; 39.9% 24.6% 24.0% basis). Calves individually housed pooled colostrum at 1.5 h 12 postnatal 18 9% metabolic body weight (BW0.75), respectively. From 24 until the end (d 7), transitioned (prepared 150 g/L) 18% BW0.75 twice daily 0700 1900 h. On d 4, an insulin-modified intravenous glucose tolerance test was conducted 8 after morning meal infusion (0.54 g/kg BW0.75, min 0) (3.9 µg/kg 20). During postprandial sampling 6, abomasal emptying assessed dosing acetaminophen (0.13 BW0.75) measuring its appearance within plasma. Sequential blood samples collected analyzed for plasma glucose, insulin, concentrations. killed 7 liver pancreatic tissues histomorphological analysis.

Effects of oral iron supplementation on haematocrit, live weight gain and health in neonatal dairy calves

Forty neonate calves were used in this study. The animals were divided into two treatment (n = 20) andcontrol (n = 20) groups. In the treatment group, oral iron as ferrous sulphate was supplemented to each calf atthe dose of 150 mg/day for 28 days, from the birthday. Blood sampling was taken from jugular veinimmediately after birth and on days 7, 14, 21 and 28 after birth. Significant differenc...

Effects of spray-dried animal plasma in calf milk replacer on health and growth of dairy calves.

Male Holstein calves (n = 120) purchased from local dairy farms were fed one of three calf milk replacers for 42 d. Experimental milk replacers were formulated to contain whey protein concentrate (WPC) as the primary protein source or WPC plus 5% spray-dried bovine plasma (SDBP) or spray-dried porcine plasma (SDPP). The SDPP was heated to remove heat-insoluble materials and provide products wit...

The effects of using milk replacer on body growth and its economic feasibility in feeding dairy calves

Thirty-eight one day old female Holstein Friesian calves were raised on artificial rearing system. We are used in completely randomized design to evaluate the effects of using milk replacer on body growth and its economic feasibility. The results revealed that the pre-weaning weight gain, pre-weaning growth rate, weaning weight, post weaning growth rate and weight at final week (week twenty) of...

Changes in tetracycline susceptibility of enteric bacteria following switching to nonmedicated milk replacer for dairy calves.

A randomized intervention study was conducted to determine if discontinuing use of calf milk replacer medicated with oxytetracycline results in increased tetracycline susceptibility in Salmonella and Campylobacter spp. and Escherichia coli in dairy calves over a 12-month period. Dairy herds with enteric bacteria with known low tetracycline susceptibility were enrolled for the study. Fecal sampl...
